Mairis Briedis retained his WBC cruiserweight title and moved on to the semifinal round of the World Boxing Super Series tournament, thrilling the hometown crowd in Riga, Latvia, with a decision win over Cuba’s Mike Perez.
WBC World Champion Mairis Briedis (22-0, 18 KOs) came face to face with Mike Perez (22-2-1, 14 KOs) in Riga before their Ali Trophy quarter-final bout at the Riga Arena, September 30.
The World Boxing Super Series’ cruiserweight tournament has its first scheduled bout. WBC champion Mairis Briedis, ranked #3 in the lineup, is officially set to face Mike Perez on September 30th in the former’s native Riga, Latvia.
In the World Boxing Super Series, 16 elite fighters – eight super-middleweights and eight cruiserweights – will battle it out in a bracket-style elimination tournament.
In both divisions, there will be four quarter-finals (September / October 2017), two semi-finals (early 2018) and one final (May 2018), making for a total of 14 high-class fights.
